What a busy time! I'm currently sourcing 28 suitable ponies for the National Trust. I've been looking for tough hardy native ponies suitable for conservation grazing, then taming them from untouched to a suitable level so they can be handled for routine care and vet checked. The real knack is not getting them too friendly in the process as they will be going to a public site where we want them to avoid the public, but still follow a bucket of food, load into a trailer and be quiet once caught. In the photo I'm training a pony to have his feet picked up. I've been training with Vanessa Bee for the past 16 years so we are getting quite a few ponies under our belt, last week we had a few challenging ponies, but she worked her magic and I learnt more from my wonderful friend and trainer.
